Americans see President Obama in a very subjective way. Whether a supportor of the fine gentleman or whether a hard core Republican who is not happy to have the man as President - for whatever reason. Whether political or colour, creed or political beliefs.

However, Americans are very close to the subject their President. Possibly, the question you'd all like to see answered in the USA - is how do the rest of the world view the new President. And the man,Obama.

I can give you an opinion from the UK and even though it is only one person's opinion, it does reflect the opinion of most of my friends who are politically minded. And they are many. Whether they be Conservatives (Republicans in USA terms) or Labour (Democratic in USA terms?

Considering Britain started the trade in black slaves from Africa and the Caribbean although history leads us to believe the French were also heavily engaged in this dispicable activity, which really only slightly reduces our guilt, so it is now remarkable, being aware of our own dastardly behaviour and colonizing addiction in a way that is guilt-ridden, that we not only see a Black President of the United States, but one who is more erudite, polished, genuine and honourable than the majority of our own current politicians. And although our culture is as cosmopolitan and diverse as yours in the USA and we may even have as many African British citizens (per capita) as the USA does African American citizens, we are somehow proud that the people of the USA had the courage to defy colour and a history of discrimation to vote in a quality President who also has all the makings of a Statesman as well.

The last Prime Minister most of us in the UK regarded as being a true Statesman was Winston Churchill, even though many will have others after Chruchill whom they feel justifies that claim to fame.

Once, the American people would have been happy to have had Tony Blair as a President had he been born in your country. That is a matter that would cause great and heated debate in the UK, however while Blair was admired more abroad than perhaps he was here in his own country, I believe that Obama is admired by friends and enemies alike in most foreign lands outside the USA.

Only time will tell us whether he will wear the mantle of statesman. Myself I have little doubt. Regardless, he is a man to be admired because he oozes trust in a world that is teetering on the border of radical and revolutionary change - only the wise and strong leaders can help us all around this potentially catastrophic danger. At this point, Obama seems very well placed to be the leading figure to point the way out of this political mire.
